Agent access gateway · For credit unions & community banks

Let the good agents in.Stop the rogue ones cold.

DEFS is an agent access gateway for credit unions and community banks. It sits between AI agents and your online banking, verifies every agent's credentials, applies the limits your members and your institution set, and blocks rogue agents before a dollar moves.

AI agents are starting to pay bills, move money and file disputes for your members. The largest banks are blocking them while they build their own controls. You shouldn't have to choose between saying no to your members and saying yes to every bot.

01 · The checkpoint

Every request takes the same path.

  1. A

    Credential verified

DEFS verifies credentials agents already carry: Visa Trusted Agent Protocol, Mastercard Agent Pay, Google AP2 mandates, Web Bot Auth signatures. We never issue our own.

  2. B

    Scopes checked, twice

The request has to fit both what the member allowed and what your institution's policy permits.

  3. C

    A clear decision

Allow, step up for confirmation, or deny. Every decision is written to a tamper-evident audit log.

02 · Your fraud team, in control

See every agent decision as it happens. Pull the plug in one click.

Live activity, step-up approvals, per-agent limits and blocks, an institution-wide kill switch, and a hash-chained audit trail.

    03 · Network effect

Block a rogue agent at one institution, and every participating institution sees it.

A shared rogue-agent blocklist, built with governance and appeal paths in mind.

    04 · For your members

Members see every connected agent, and can cut one off instantly.

A "My connected agents" page inside your online banking shows each agent, what it's allowed to do, and a revoke button that takes effect immediately.

    05 · What you get

One checkpoint for non-card money movement.

    01

    Every issuer, one gateway

Pluggable verifiers for the major agent credential schemes, so you aren't betting on a single network or protocol.

    02

    Member + institution scopes

Per-agent, per-action limits for bill pay, internal and external transfers, ACH and disputes.

    03

    Step-up, not dead ends

Borderline requests go to confirmation instead of being refused outright.

    04

    Tamper-evident audit

An append-only, hash-chained record of every request, decision and staff action.

    05

    Kill switch

Cut off all agent access at your institution instantly, then restore it just as fast.

    06

Sits in front of what you run

Designed to sit in front of existing online banking. We're looking for pilot partners to shape the integrations.

    FAQ

Questions about AI agent access, answered.

    What is DEFS?

DEFS is an agent access gateway for credit unions and community banks. It sits between AI agents and a financial institution's online banking, verifies each agent's credentials, enforces the limits set by both the member and the institution, and allows, steps up or denies each request before money moves.

What is an AI agent access gateway?

An AI agent access gateway is a checkpoint between automated AI agents and a bank's or credit union's systems. Instead of blocking all agents or letting them use a member's password, the gateway identifies each agent from its cryptographic credentials, checks what it is allowed to do, and records every decision.

How can credit unions control what AI agents do in online banking?

With DEFS, members choose what each connected agent may do (for example, bill pay up to $500 and no external transfers), and the institution sets policy caps on top. Every request must fit both. The fraud team can limit, block or revoke any agent, or use a kill switch to stop all agent access at once.

Does DEFS support Visa Trusted Agent Protocol, Google AP2 and Web Bot Auth?

DEFS is designed to accept credentials agents already carry. Its prototype verifies HTTP message signatures used by Cloudflare Web Bot Auth and Visa Trusted Agent Protocol (Ed25519, RFC 9421) and Google AP2 mandates in SD-JWT form. Mastercard Agent Pay, Prove and World ID are planned integrations and are stubbed in the prototype. DEFS never issues its own agent passport.

How does DEFS stop rogue AI agents on bill pay, transfers and ACH?

Each request is checked against member and institution scopes. Out-of-scope requests are denied, borderline ones are sent for step-up confirmation, and an agent that repeatedly exceeds its limits is blocked automatically. Blocks can be shared on a rogue-agent blocklist so other participating institutions see them.

What is the shared rogue-agent blocklist?

It is a network-wide list of agents that a participating institution has blocked. When one institution blocks a rogue agent, others using DEFS see that block right away. It is being designed with governance and appeal paths.

    Does DEFS handle card payments?

No. Card networks already offer issuer-side tools for card transactions. DEFS focuses on non-card money movement that runs through online banking: bill pay, internal and external transfers, ACH and disputes.

Which institutions is DEFS built for?

Credit unions and community banks, primarily those with roughly $500 million to $5 billion in assets, that want to serve members' AI agents without building their own agent controls.

Is DEFS live at any institution?

Not yet. DEFS is an early-stage product with a working prototype running on test data, and it is looking for a small number of pilot partners.

Has DEFS completed security audits or certifications?

No. DEFS is early stage and has not completed third-party audits or certifications. It will work through each pilot partner's vendor due-diligence process.
